What is The Difference Card?
The Difference Card is an employer funded benefit that works alongside your medical insurance plan. It may help offset portions of your copays, deductibles, and coinsurance depending on your plan design with your health insurance benefits.
How do I swipe my Difference Card?
If your plan design allows it, you can swipe your Difference Card at your doctor’s office for medical copays. You may also be able to use your Difference Card to pay for prescriptions at the pharmacy. Depending on the benefits your employer offers, you may also be able to use your Difference Card to utilize your FSA, HSA, HRA or Transit funds. Check your Difference Card Summary of Benefits for details specific to your plan design and the benefits that are swipe-able on your card.
What if my doctor doesn’t accept credit cards, or what if I forget to bring my Difference Card to my doctor appointment?
If you don’t have your Difference Card with you or if your doctor doesn’t accept credit cards, and your Difference Card plan covers copays, pay the entire copay then submit a claim for processing.The Difference Card will reimburse you for your benefit amount being funded by your employer. Be sure to get a receipt from your doctor and submit that along with your claim. You may submit a claim using The Difference Card Mobile App or via the Member Portal.
What if my Difference Card is declined at the doctor’s office?
Make sure the card is being swiped for the correct amount. The amount allowed for each swipe is listed under the “YOU PAY” column of your Summary of Benefits. If you experience any trouble when using your card, you are encouraged to call Difference Card Member Services at 888-343-2110 and they will be happy to assist you.
Can my dependent child under 18 have their own card?
In order to have a Difference Card, the dependent must be 18 years or older.
What do I do if my Difference Card is lost or stolen?
Call Member Services at 888-343-2110 immediately to report your card lost or stolen or log in to your Difference Card account to report your card lost or stolen. Through the member portal you can also order a new card online!
How do I create my online account with The Difference Card?
To create your online account with The Difference Card, click Account Login then Member Login. If this is your first-time logging into your account, click the First Time User section to register.
Do I need separate accounts for my dependents?
We believe in simplicity, only the primary member will need to register, all dependents information will be linked to the primary member’s account.
How do I submit a claim for reimbursement?
There are four convenient ways to submit claims to the Difference Card for processing. You may submit using the mobile app, the online member portal, or by mail or fax. If you are mailing or faxing a claim in, be sure to include a claim form. Check out how to submit a claim.
How long do I have to wait to be reimbursed after submitting a claim?
We process 99% of claims in 2 business days. We will release the funds according to your plan and depending on if you have a check or direct deposit, you can expect to see the funds between 1-10 business days.
What documents are needed for claims submission?
In order for us to process a claim, we will require an Explanation of Benefits or Insurance Statement from your insurance carrier, which breaks down how the services were processed and applied to your Copay, Deductible and or Coinsurance. For any prescriptions, copays or FSA spent funds, you may submit receipts or invoices. For any DCA expenses, you will be required to fill out the DCA Reimbursement form to submit a claim.
Can I request to have my provider paid directly? If so, how do I do that?
Yes! If you are using the mobile app or your online member portal, you can enter your provider’s information. We will issue the check directly to the provider’s office. Depending on your Difference Card benefit you may have a portion to meet out of pocket before funding is provided. For those details, please review your Difference Card Summary of Benefits.
Am I required to submit claims?
Unless your plan is set up for automatic claims file feed, to receive any reimbursement funds, you must submit claims to The Difference Card for processing.
How can I apply for Direct Deposit?
If Direct Deposit is available, you may sign up in your Difference Card member portal or on our mobile app. This can be done in your “Profile” section in your account.
Can I pay for over the counter supplies with my Difference Card?
Over-the-counter items is typically not covered by your employer funded benefit, but if you have a health care FSA you may purchase eligible over the counter medication with your Difference Card.
