In this month’s Cup of Joe, our CEO Joe Donovan sat down with Loretta Silecchia, Director of Operations at The Difference Card, to talk about the importance of ending Q4 strong to pave the way for a successful Q1.

2024 was a record-breaking year for The Difference Card, and with 2025 already off to a promising start, Joe and Loretta offered insights into how the work we do today sets the foundation for success tomorrow.

The Q4 Marathon

Joe compared the whirlwind of Q4 to “The 12 Days of Christmas,” filled with quotes, enrollments, and client meetings. While the season can feel like a sprint, Loretta emphasized the marathon mindset it takes to deliver excellence. Her operations team ensures every plan is implemented, rolled out, and serviced flawlessly come January. “It’s tedious work, but it’s worth it to ensure our clients and members get off on the right foot in the new year,” she shared.

Tools, Teamwork, and Staying Motivated

Behind every smooth Q1 rollout is meticulous preparation and teamwork. Loretta highlighted the importance of their project management tool and weekly team huddles, which keep everyone aligned and aware of potential roadblocks.

When it comes to keeping her team motivated during the hustle, Loretta says small celebrations and recognition go a long way. From holiday treats to shout-outs for milestones, celebrating wins—big and small—helps the team stay energized.

Looking Ahead to Q1 and Beyond

As the industry continues to evolve, Joe shared his predictions for 2025:

  • Reducing Employee Out-of-Pocket Costs: With medical debt remaining a leading cause of bankruptcy, employers will need to find creative ways to lighten the financial burden on employees.
  • Transparency in Healthcare: Expect an increasing focus on objective quality and cost metrics for providers and facilities.

These trends highlight the growing need for innovative benefits strategies that prioritize employee well-being and financial stability.

Loretta’s advice for navigating your first Q4? “Take it one day at a time. Q4 can feel overwhelming, but if you focus on what’s in front of you and trust the process, you’ll get through it. And don’t be afraid to ask for help—Q4 is a team sport.”
